World Pilgrims, An Interfaith Journey
6:00 p.m., April 30, 2008
Mount Hermon Fellowship Hall
Mark your calendars as Mount Hermon welcomes an old friend back for the first of our 125th Anniversary Lecture series. The Reverend Jill Ulrici is returning to Mount Hermon for the evening.
Jill will share stories from her two World Pilgrims trips: one to Istanbul and Greece in 2006 and the other to Jordan and Israel in 2007. Each trip consisted of Jewish, Muslim, and Christian lay people and clergy. Each trip included a leader from each faith group, a trip organizer, and between twenty-three and twenty-five people in all. The purpose of the pilgrimages is to facilitate relationship building beween people of different faiths so that upon their return they can work together locally for the common good.
The presentation will include pictures of all the holy places and sacred spaces visited but also a discussion of interfaith relationship building. In other words, how did participation on a World Pilgrims trip affect one's attitude and understanding of the "other"? In this case, the "other" is one of a different faith, but there were racial, gender, and socio-economic variations among the participants as well.
Light refreshments will be served. We hope to see you for this special evening.
