FROM THE WORSHIP COMMITTEE
Ann Davis, Chair
Special Services—Confirmations and Baptisms
Our youth membership continues to grow! Early in summer, on Day of Pentecost, June 12, Jed and Jake May were received into the church through baptism. Prior to the baptism of Jed and Jake, Spencer Davis and Hannah May were confirmed and Peter Faulkner was baptized on Easter Sunday. Mt. Hermon is blessed to have these young folk now fully participating in our worship services.
Men’s Chorus
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel . . .(Matt. 5:15)
(and no longer do they sing in anonymity!!)
On Trinity Sunday, June 19 which was Father’s Day, the men of the church contributed to the service by forming a men’s chorus singing an old favorite—'Love Lifted Me' as the anthem. Now that we are assured that we have some really good male voices in the congregation we won’t wait until Father’s Day rolls around to have another men’s chorus group. They will be invited back by popular acclaim!
Set of stoneware plates and goblets for communion
Many of you have admired the beautiful set of plates and goblets custom made for Mt. Hermon by Will Langford, Appreciation and thanks go to Melissa Tufts who provided the necessary specifications to Langford for the making of this pottery and to Edith Brown who has graciously given dainty linens belonging to her mother to provide dust covers as protection for the elements of wine and bread.
The Kirkin’
Many members of the congregation are working to make this service come together. Our pastor is preparing the service from her perspective, i.e. co-ordinating the scripture, liturgy, responses and hymns and preparing the sermon. The Beadle has ceremonial duties to perform. The choir has been working on anthems and choral responses. The youth of our church will be involved with greeting, offering, lighting of the candles and processing with the standards. There are many other parts to complete—publicity, service bulletin, table set up etc. and who does the decorating and food—PW of course . . . the women of the church . . . with help and support from the men of the church, God bless ‘em! The food will be unparalleled . . . need more be said?!
